Modifying sketches after body creation..

I created sketches to make a loft that produced a body, I need to amend the shape of the body, I thought I'll just modify the sketches, but they seem locked now.. I realised the design history wasn't captured, so nothing in there.

I don't mind a bit of extra work so was going to delete the body , modify my sketch/recreate the loft/body but when I delete the body it deletes the sketches too !! ahhhhhh

I activated the design history, I then click edit on the base feature, I can now edit my sketch but the modifications don't get reflected in the body..

To make it simple, can I somehow delete the body and keep my sketches ?
