Modifying a body, how to specify which body to cut/join?

I have 2 bodies, and want to add to one of them, so I use extrude tool, and join.  But how do I specify which body to join to?  Currently it seems to join to whatever one it interestects, is this just a feature limitation, or am I missing something?  Similarly I would like to do a extrude cut, and be able to specify which body I am cutting instead of just cutting all the bodies.

For Join, you are correct:  The first body hit will be the target body.  You can control this by changing body visibility.  Invisible bodies will not participate.

For Cut, there is UI to select which bodies are affected, labeled "Bodies to Cut"

Here is a screencast:

Unfortunately, the UI is not consistent for Extrude command flavors.

In case of an cut you can pick the objects you want to cut, but you have to open the little menu at the bottom of the dialog.

In case of join operations you can simply hide the objects you want to exclude from the operation.

Both methods are shown in this little screen cast.

@jeff_strater: If the forum is broken there is no chance to be as fast as you are 😉

So I originally posted this in the new fusion360 in browser preview forum, which is what I am using.  It doesn't seem to have the same exact dialog for this, but I can just hide the other bodies if I don't want them to connect.

Thanks.

You're right. The web front-end only provides a subset of the desktop client. That's not a great thing but will (hopefully) change with some time and passion. The good thing is that the web front-end behaves consistent and you have to hide objects (like you've written) in both cases 😉

I find it VERY frustrating not to be able to specify which bodies to be included in the Join command via the extrude dialogue box. Having to hide other bodies in order to isolate the join to a specific body is terribly inefficient. A big part of the sales pitch for fusion for us was how it is better thought out, more efficient etc than other sofware (SW) , this is a huge miss, and a huge pain in the ass (kudos for getting it right with the Cut command though 🙂

You listened to a sales pitch?

You should have come here and asked the users some questions.

@dave.waddellE7ZQK This tends to be a lot less of a problem if you use components and follow Rule #1. Extrude will not join bodies from different components at all so if you need to join a body from a different component you'll need to use Combine. Cut will cut bodies in different component, can be useful for holes through multiple component bodies.
