Model scale command is missing

Hello,

Previous to the new update, I was able to use the "Scale" command in the Modify menu of modeling. It's now missing. I did a search on the forums but couldn't find a conclusive answer on fixing my problem. The only answer I found was to turn the object into a "Base object" but I wasn't able to select it once the Scale command appeared.

What I'm trying to do is draw a sphere and "smush" it down to a flatter shape. I used to use the Scale command, and then I'd select "non-uniform scale" and just smash it down to the desired height/size.

Does anyone know how to fix this? It's very frustrating since I can't think of any other way to do this task without the standard Scale command.

Hey there,

Have you tried accomplishing this by modifying a T-spline sphere in the sculpt environment? The sculpt environment is great for pressing, pulling, and manipulating primitive shapes into something more organic. You can create a form, choose a primitive sphere, and use the edit form command to squish it down! You can select all of the faces of the sphere, and use the scale manipulator - the horizontal line to "squish" the sphere along a certain axis.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks,

Taylor

It sounds like you may be having difficulty with the timeline. If a body (e.g. sphere primitive) was created prior to intializing a BaseFeature, you will not be able to select that body for the Scale command. One option is to re-create the body as part of the BaseFeature.

Another suggestion might be to disable the timeline in the design. Please note that this is not a reversible process. You will lose parameters and the timeline and they cannot be re-enabled. However, by disabling in timeline, you will be able direct edit the body that you created.

To disable the timeline:

You can click on the Gear in the Timeline

You can right click on the Design Name in the Browser and choose Do not Capture Design HIstory.

After disabling the timeline, you'll note that the scale command will appear in the Model > Modify menu.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Hi Nathan, thanks for all your help. That really solved the problem, I just had to redraw the sphere AFTER I made a base body. This small change just threw me off since I'm so used to the way Fusion360 normally functions. Thank you so much again.

Hi!

I suspect you are trying to scale geometry that is not part of the current BaseFeature. I suspect that you should create the sphere after initiating the Create BaseFeature command instead of before. This is a current limitation of the scale command, but it will not stay this way forever.

As a work around, you may be able to copy and paste the spherical Solid Body into the Base Feature. Or... if you've created the sphere with a Sculpt primitive via the Create Form command, you can just right click on the Form in the Timeline and choose Edit. Now, use the Sculpt > Modify > Edit Form command to scale the body as desired.

A tip you may try to get accustomed to the Timeline is to try to start a body via the Create Form or Create BaseFeature command. This may help with work flow, considering that you can always go back in the Timeline and edit a Form or BaseFeature command.

Let me know if this helps or if I may be able to clarify anything.

Thanks,

It makes sense to adjust the size of a sphere via the primitive command that generates the shape.

But the design timeline needs a scale tool as well besides just move and rotate.

I also noticed that scale for example is missing in the sketch engine.
