Meshmixer Fusion 360 question

Hi,

I am testing the new version of fusion. I was used to use Meshmixer. With meshmixer, I was able to create a 1.5mm offset of my surface. So I could have a shell. I don't find this option in fusion 360.

Also, I wonder how we change the STL into solid that we can change in fusion.

I scan object with 3D scan, I thicken the surface, then I add holes cut parts.

For exp, I scan a bunny, I thicken the surface then I want to add holes on the surface.

Are we able to thicken and transform the mesh in solid that we can work on in fusion?

Thank you

Hello,

Fusion Mesh Workspace is a preview, and does not have the full MeshMixer toolset yet. We do have a "Mesh to BREP" command that is available in the Model Workspace under the "Modify"->"Mesh" tab. This command does not do any analytic conversion of the mesh. It simply converts each Mesh facet into a BREP face. It is not recommended for any mesh exceeding 10K triangles and will not work for any mesh over 50K triangles.

There is another way to go from Mesh to BREP if you have prismatic meshes. In the "Model" Workspace, under the "Create"->Mesh tab, you will see two commands - Create Mesh Section and Fit Curves to Mesh Section. You can create cross-sections of your mesh and make sketches from the sections, and then use modeling operations to rebuild your object. Is this something that would work for you? If you have any sample mesh files you can share, I would be happy to take a look.

Thanks,

Manjiri McCoy

Correction in my previous post " Create->Mesh" should read "Sketch->Mesh"

Thank you for the answer. Sorry, I took a lot of time to answer.

Ohh I am sad when I heard about Meshmixer, I thought that I finally have my magical software 😉

Hope the next version
