Make a diameter-dimension in a sketch

When making a revolve I always want to dimension most of the geometry as diameter.

I can make a symetric point on the other side and use it to make a dimension that is double the distance of the radius.

But is this really the only way to do it in Fusion360?

Thank you for the solution.

In your video you are using a construction line as center-line.

But it works with a regular line too.

Perfect!

Does anybody know why this 7.0 in Dia dimensional line is not connected to the sketch line itself.

Thanks

you mean that top line with the 7 inch designation?

its not part of the sketch, its the dimension of the sketch.

its not supposed to be connected to it

there is no 7 inch line in your video that i see.

those sketch dimension lines shouldnt "connect" to the sketch, they arent part of it, just dimension

Perhaps I used the wrong word. Not "connected" but "in-line/Collinear".

This has been resolved in other post.

Thanks

What it should have been - Right vs Wrong. (See attached pics)

Thanks to @laughingcreek in another post.

I'm new here so have not figured out how to quote another post.

I thought I tagged him here so any one running into this issue could find solutions.

Thanks everyone.

Sure wish they would have added a hotkey... have to right click EVERY time and if you go to fast it breaks the workflow.

Added a hotkey, for the dimension command?
You mean like pushing 'D' key on keyboard.
Or assigning a spare mouse key to it.

That's what I been doing.

Brian.

I think he means for creating a diameter dimension, you have to right click to bring up the marking menu-

@Anonymous

You are picking the lines in wrong order.

Always pick the center line first.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

Pick Order 1 and then 2Pick Order 1 and then 2

hopefully in the 3 years since @Anonymous  posted the original question he has figured it out.

No, to toggle to diameter dimension. In Inventor you can actually define a line as a center line and all dimensions snapped to it are automatically set to diameter.

Any new way to set diameter measurement as the default?

There's now an option to create a centre line in a sketch. Dimensions from this will all be diameters.
