Magenta Lines in Sketch

I am trying to use Fusion for more than a cam system but keep struggling to figure of some of the modeling concepts.

I come form a SW background and am used to being able to snap to other model geometry from a sketch.  I can add dimension and constraints.  I am not fulling understanding why fusion keeps projecting magenta lines into the sketch.  It begins to get cluttered and I get lines over lines.

In the attached image all line points on the sketch were created from clicking on the below cube.  There is not magenta line on the upper cube but all the other ones did project a magenta line.

Can someone explain when and why they are used so I can try to get a handle on it?

Try this...

Autoproject.png

If there is something you do want projected (Convert Entities) then hit P on the keyboard while in sketch and select the edge to project.

You can right click on the projected geometry and toggle to Construction if desired.

There are 2 settings in preferences that control auto projection. The one highlighted below will autoproject all edges when you use sketch on face. Auto project on reference will project edges when you snap to an edge, this is what you're seeing, if you turn it off you'll have to project all references manually. Personally I turned it off and just press P and grab just the points I need. Fusion needs to project geometry into the sketch you can't just use and edge like in some other software.

Thanks, So all geometry needs to be projected into the sketch. I was hoping there was a way around this but I will just have to adjust my work flow.

I think turning off the auto project will help me to keep out some clutter.

If what you're worried is the visual overhead, perhaps you can select a curve and hit the "X" key on your keyboard, that will convert that curve into a Reference/Construction curve making it less intrusive. Hit "X" again to make it a normal curve again.
