Mac users - Fusion always crashes from sleep?

Anyone else notice Fusion crashing nearly 10/10 times if it's left open and you allow your computer to sleep and wake?

This happens to me multiple times a day.

This is on a fresh (totally fresh) Yosemite installation and only the most recent Fusion installed (did this last night).

Thanks KpB,

Most of the crashes happend, when i try to show Date Panel.

I unchecked all options under Data Collection and Use, than restart the application and now it works. (maybe just a coincidence, i need more time to make certain)

Yosemite 10.10.2, Fusion 360 2.0.1462

I have the same problem  I see they put out an update last week, but they don't mention this problem, so I guesss it's not fixed.

Always crashes from sleep or looses connection to the network afterword, even though I am still connected to WiFi.  Current info shows in "Data Panel", but unable to upload, download, or open project files.  late 14 mbpr

Hi,

We are still looking into this - specifically trying to reproduce it. There is a feeling that not all issues regarding Fusion locking when returning from "sleep" are the same.

Some customers have reported that when turning off the Data Collection and Use options under Preferences have resolved their issues. Others not so lucky.

It would be useful for us if you do still have these options selected to turn them off and see if it affects the existence or the frequency the freezes.

Also it would be useful if, when you see Fusion is "frozen" if you can check Activity Monitor and see if anything else may not be responding (e.g. a service, or another app).

Thanks for your patience as we hunt this down.

Regards, KpB

I have been looking into this today and have found there are multiple issues.

@Anonymous  - your issue may be slightly different than many on this thread.  Yours is related to using the "Enable Cloud Libraries" option.  We are looking into a solution, but at the moment I would disable the "Enable Cloud Libraries" preference for CAM.

Others on this thread:  I need your help.  I believe this is caused by an issue with Screencast.  If you see the issue again, can you bring up "Activity Monitor" on your Mac and see if Screencast is running.  If so select it, quit the process and go back to Fusion 360.  Does that fix the problem?  Please let us know your findings.

If Screencast is not running, can you send me (kris.berg@autodesk.com) an image of your Activity Monitor window, with the CPU tab active and sorted by CPU usage.  See image below.

I think you are onto something here. I see this issue regularly, with a freeze triggered by accessing menus after Fusion has been open for some time. Per suggestions, when  freeze happens I have gone to the Activity monitor and force quit the Screencast process. Fusion immediately recovers. In four freezes since starting to try this yesterday it has been 100% successful. Not sure if everyone here has the same issue but this is worth a try.

I'll have to try stopping the screen cast process the next time my Fusion 360 freezes - it should be any minute now.  I did try turning off the cloud libraries and data collection, but it froze after that.

Hi @SGoldthwaite

Hopefully turning off Cloud libaries and analytics will help with this issue.  However, if it does not please send in your CER's and include your email address. The issues related to Fusion hanging after sleeping have been difficult for us to reproduce, so we have been combing through the CER's of those that have posted for clues on reproducing and resolving this issue.

Thank you,

Kris Berg

I did another test.  I opened Fusion 360  with an empty untitled tab.  I left it overnight and in the morning I tried to open a model.  Fusion just hung, nothing happened.  I went into activity monitor and forced quit Screencast.  Then in Fusion my model opened up right away and everything was fine.  It appears Screencast is the problem, or at least one of the problems.

I have an iMac with OSC 10.9.5

Thanks for the continued diagnosis - Scott, the Screencast team is now in contact with the Fusion team and we have started to look into this as well.

We are in the midst of trying to reproduce this here in our office; all of the information posted here including error reports has been helpful to our development team in terms of isolating the cause(s) of this problem.

Checking in to say, cautiously, that I disabled cloud libraries and my problem appears to be resolved.  Unlike most others, I had not ye installed screencast.  Of course, I now don't have cloud libraries, but I can live without that for now.  I suppose I'll hold of on installing Screencast....  Ironic that a tool meant for troubleshooting problems is causing them. 🙂

Neato! Thanks for the update.

Did the forum ever get changed to allow embedding a video with the insert video command and a Screencast link?

Great news!
Is it necessary to un-install the previous version first?
Is it possible to capture just a portion of the screen on the Mac?

@Oceanconcepts

  1. When you install Screencast 2.0 it will ask you if you want to replace the existing version.
  2. In Screencast you have the option of selecting a region.

Does this answer your question?

Hi @Anonymous

Earlier today we released the "Insert Screencast" feature for the Discussion Forums, where users can directly embed Screencasts in the forum posts. See screenshot below.

Insert Screencast.PNG

The Fusion Forum is implemented in a different way from our regular discussion forums, so we dont have this capability in the Fusion Forum yet. You can however manually grab the embed code for the Screencast and add it to your forum post, I have embedded a Screencast below to show how this can be done. Hope you find this helpful.
