Love the new folders in browser

Hi guys,

thew new folders in Browser work pretty good. I read some of the glitches that made it into this release

but they don't really harm much.

They make organizing your files so much easier.

I noticed folders cannot be used with sketches which it should specifically the sketch folder can grow significantly as well.

Great job!

One a technical note for those who might see bodies not be in the folders when going back in time

like in my case those are bodies that at the end of the timeline will be stitched with other bodies.

I added the folders at the end thus those bodies here are still free. So use the folders as early as possible.

Hi @cekuhnen,

Thanks for the feedback! I'm pretty excited about the new body folders too! I can't tell you how many time a user has submitted a design to us for review with a great deal of bodies with no names or any sort of identifier like that. This should do well in easing some of the frustration that comes from trying to find certain problematic bodies in large designs and so for that I am eternally grateful! 🙂

Also thanks for that note about using the folders as early as possible in the design! I think there might be an opportunity for a new R.U.L.E. here, but I'm not sure what number we've made it up to - @TrippyLighting, thoughts? I can foresee that tripping some people up, so I'm going to keep that in the back of my mind when troubleshooting these types of issues.

Thanks for being an awesome member of our community and feel free to reach out if you ever have any questions or concerns! We are always happy to assist!

Cheers,

The concept behind R.U.L.E #1 is to start  organizing your design als early as possible by using components and now also folders.

R.U.L.E #2 is  "Name your stuff!" be that components, sketches, features, groups folder etc.  This does not need any new features and Fusion 360 allows you to rename almost anything.

No new rules needed.

Folders are a very welcome addition, but I find are a bit old style way of organizing things. When designs get bigger you may want to categorize for example your components into Screws, purchased parts, manufactured parts, Vendor, Manufacturer etc. Folders are to one dimensional to cover this.

I'd prefer user definable tags which are much more general in nature that you can sort and filter for.

Rule Number "fill in" Use folders as early as possible.

Plan ahead your design.

Create folders as early as possible and sort your objects into the folders to prevent the browser to be overloaded.

Objects can be added to the folder at any time in the timeline but sometimes have to be added also in the beginning

of the timeline to the folder so that they show up there.
