Lost some components, and about three hours of work

I am a hobbyist using Fusion 360 for 3D printing designs.  I'm new to the software but learning quickly.  This evening, I was spending a bit of time exploring named and user parameters.  It's a really nice feature and I want to get good at using them.

I was putting the finishing touches on my user parameter changes.  I went to update a sketch, and F360 started behaving oddly (not displaying the sketch, and not letting me toggle the visibility either), so I decided to close the drawing.  I was prompted to save, and did so.  When I re-opened it, two of my three components were gone.  Fortunately I had a saved version of the drawing from earlier in the afternoon, but this event was very disheartening.  I guess I just need to manually save more frequently.  Could I have done something to cause this?

hi @Anonymous, sorry that you are having these problems.  If you could share some more information, it could help us track down what happened.  It's possible that the components are not truly lost.  If you could share the model, that would be a huge help.

If you could describe in more detail what you were doing when you first started having problems, that would also help.  You say you were updating a sketch.  Can you explain more about what you were doing at the time, and what effects you saw?  If you were editing a sketch, you were probably in a "rolled back" state.  In this state, any components created after the sketch are temporarily not visible (think of sketch edit as time travel - you are taking your design back to the time when it was created).  But, when you finish editing the sketch, those components should return (unless the edit created errors in the design).

Anyway, some more info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff Strater (Fusion development)

Hi Jeff,

You nailed it!  The timeline was rolled back (I'm still getting used to that, and I didn't realize that rolling back the timeline also removed objects from the browser).  I've already started redoing my work (which is no big deal, as this is mainly a learning exercise anyway) and I don't remember exactly what I was doing at the time other than trying to open a sketch I had created earlier, so I won't worry about it for now.  Thanks for the response though. 🙂  If I run into any other issues, I'll be sure to take better notes to be able to provide detailed feedback.

Will we be seeing you in robotics this year? (this is Dave)
