Looking to add a thin edge to the outside of some 3d text

I want to make some 3d text for print and am looking to add a little "lip" on the front facing part of that. In my mind in it would be something like adding a stroke about 5mm x axis thick and about 2mm y axis. I want to be able to clip some little pins to the front facing edge. Any help would be great! Thanks

I know my example won't match exactly what you want to do, but hopefully the method shown will be useful to you.

Start a new sketch on top of the letters. Use the Sketch>Project tool to capture the top faces of the letters with purple lines. Use the Sketch>Offset tool with those purple lines to get usable profiles for your lips. Create>Extrude those profiles down the desired amount.
