Hello -

I'm trying to use the loft command to model a bottle.  I've attached a canvas to setup profiles to loft.  Several questions come up.

1. I have only one view of the bottle (front view).  I've attached a canvas to my front modeling plane.

2. Drawing profiles is not a problem.  But I want to draw them at different heights from the top up, so that I can define my profile according ot the shape of the bottle.  But every time I draw a profile, Fusion 360 jumps to the top view so that I can draw/edit my sketch.

3. Is there a way draw a sketch on an offset plane in 3D space so that I can more closely match the profile to the bottle shape?

4. Or am I over-thinking Fusion 360 by trying to control my profiles too early in the process?  Meaning, do I come as close as I can get using 2D profiles and later, manipulate the 3D result?

Thank in advance!

Bill

Hi @Anonymous

Could I see a image of the bottle you are trying to model?

Thanks,

Absolutely.  Here it is - a very simple bottle.  So far, I came to the conclusion that I can rough out the profile of the bottle using the line tool than revolve.  Later, using push/pull too smooth out corners.  However, I think lofting profiles would provide greater accuracy.

In general, I'm experimenting and looking for best practices to create and control form.  So I'm open to anything.

How about using more of the sketch tools other then just the line. Like the spline?

Care to share what your rough profile model looks like?

Here is what I did just real quick.

This is the profile I started with.  Then I push/pull on edges to smooth out the bottle.  But this approach leave me with another problem which is being able to offset the profile to create another body i.e. foam packaging around the bottle.

Your bottle looks good!

Seems like I'm on the right track by using line, spline and revolve.  The only difference is combining the two to create more detail.  Thank you for the comparison.  I'll try combining line/spline so that I can revolve with more detail.

Cheers!

Here is a video from Autodesk Fusion 360 that shows loft with a bottle too.

Thank you John!  Here is my go at the bottle using line, spline and fillets to add detail to the profile. I then revolved it 360.
