[LOFT] Rail not intersecting all profiles

Hello everyone,

I am currently working on the hull of a ship. While trying to loft, one of my 2 rails just won't work and gives me the error "The rail do not intersect all profiles". While I understand the error, I can't see how my profiles are not intersecting. I'm using snap, projected every points I needed and also projected a plan. All in all, this is getting really fustrating. Fusion360 doesn't say which profile is not intersecting, which is not helping.

Rail1 works, but Rail2 doesn't. I used the exact same technique to do both : I did a sketch, projected points from other sketches to make sure they intersect, and drew splines from point A to point B.

The file is attached to the thread.

Thanks ! 🙂

I'm about to open your file, but can already see that "rail 2" only goes part of the way, then becomes "rail 3" .  not sure way, more in a min.

Hi,

I would replace the top rail.

replace railreplace rail

If necessary 1 more control point could be inserted.

rails have to be at lest tangent between segmenents.  yours weren't along the gunwale.

also, did you intend to select the keel as part of the loft profile, or did you mean for that to be a rail also?

Alright, after 5mn trying to put some tangent constrains that just didn't want to work, I deleted a point on my top sketch just for the sake of trying, and it works. So apparently this has indeed something to do with tangency. I somehow didn't have to worry about it for any other sketches, which is counter intuitive at the very best.

To answer your questions , I mostly tried to make it work first without bothering with the actual shape of the boat. Now I can focus on doing the real shape 🙂

Thanks you all for the really fast help !
