Can't cut/edit model

I'm trying to edit/cutaway some parts of a 3D model but only the new parts i created to cut the imported model seem to work. i am pretty sure i am doing something wrong but i can't find out what exactly is going wrong. (maybe the type the imported model is?) Screenshot (1).png

The only way to directly edit imported mesh bodies is in the mesh workspace, but I am not even sure it allows you to split with a surface.

These look like quad meshes and you probably can convert them into T-Splines and then surfaces. then you can use the surface tools in Fusion 360 to split geometry.

However, if that is a good workflow depends on what your ultimate goal is with this model.

If you can share the model through the public link in the data panel that would likely help.

here is the public link: https://a360.co/2pz2zjm

i am trying to cut a little from the tail (i left the part where i tried to make the cut in it) and the hair is a little too long (should reach just above her chin) i am trying to make a dice-box out of the horse part of the body for D&D sessions. (cut it close to the top part of the horseback and print it as two parts)

As far as graphic representations go, this is a pretty nice model.  But it's going to require a LOT of work before it will be 3d printable.

This is not a job for fusion.  Fusion lacks the mesh tools nessesary to work with this model, and the model is to complex and detailed to convert to a solid and perform well (either by directly converting to brep, or using the quad mesh to t-spline approach)

Many parts of this model won't be printable without further modification.  such as the hair, or the bottom hem of the shirt.

This is a Job for mesh mixer or blender.

Yep, probably both!

This is not a model I would try to edit in Fusion 360.

Quad meshes such as this are better edited in a polygon or Sub-D modeling software. Pick your flavor. Mine is Blender but there are plenty of options, Cinema 4D, MoDo, 3DS Max, ZBrush etc.

For triangulated meshes Autodesk Meshmixer is very powerful.

The difficulty with many such meshes is that they were created for visual representation purposes. As such they have very fine structures (hair) or only infinitely thin surfaces ( tail). This will require software specialized in working with mesh data.
