Loft on an axis

I thought this would be so simple.... now I'm simply frustrated. Why is this not working? I simply wanted to loft two shapes together. They happen to share a common axis. Any help would be MUCH appreciated - I've lost 4 hours to this problem.

File>Export and then Attach your *.f3d file here and end all doubt.

A few more details about what is failing would definitely help.

@jeff_strater My first attempt resulted in this rather obtuse error message:

File attached. (p.s. The rail is a 3 point arc.)

My second attempt was successful:

The key to making it work was to divide both the triangle and the rectangle in half (Mirror it to complete the model).

@Boston.watts, I think the problem is that this is a special case of the "hollow loft" problem:  lofting-of-hollow-features.   In addition to @etfrench's approach, you can do this with two lofts (though you need a second rail curve):
