lines governed by equations

does anyone know if it is possible to make lines driven by equations, for example z = 5 + 6x^2 + x^3 or something. I've been doing some optimization using algebra for the shape of some curves. but can't easily draw them. A very clunky way of doing it is to use the equation driven surface app: https://apps.autodesk.com/FUSION/en/Detail/Index?id=562218228314913792&appLang=en&os=Win64&autostart... and then projecting that onto a sketch, but the equation seems like it is a bunch of straight lines, and the finish isn't smooth, it is like this:

If anyone knows of a good way to sketch lines with equations that would be much appreciated.

Regards

Seb

Use that app to generate the initial sketch.

Project the required points for the design intent, and draw the spline curve attaching to the given points.

Fusion will give best results with least amount of points in a Spline.  Means a two point spline is the best it can do.

might help....

Thank you for the suggestion, it's a good idea. If I have a few spline points, I don't think I can get a perfect fit (), although it is quite close. Here is an example:

An alternative is to create loads of spline points and get something like this (making the spline points coincident):

Again, it's not a perfect fit although it is pretty good. another thing is that it's just quite a bit of hassle. It's unfortunate, as fusion 360 used to have an equation driven curve plug in/app (see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nF1SLuktIg at around 1:25), and solidworks already have the functionality built in (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aE5ovqa5Mc). Thanks for the suggestion though, it's a decent fix. I'll try and see if Autodesk will add this functionality though.

Autodesk Inventor Professional is the Autodesk MCAD equivalent of SOLIDWORKS, not Fusion 360.

Autodesk has had this functionality for many many years in Autodesk Inventor Professional.
