Last Update broke Mesh2T-Splines, Mesh2Brep,and Mesh Import Position+Scale

While the new mesh tools are quite cool, the update broke the functionality and usability of the T-Splines and Base feature (mesh to BREP) inside Fusion 360 completely.

The problems and observations:

TS and Insert Mesh do not give you a scale import dialog
Only create Mesh object and then insert Mesh gives you the scale import dialog

Quad meshes will be imported as triangles !? Seriously why! makes absolutely no sense!
Quad mesh imported into TS I can be converted back to a quad TS object while the imported mesh had triangles – but then you also have no scale for import.
Mesh imported inside new mesh object with correct scale then fails to be converted to TS because TS then complains about the triangles.

Why does Fusion add a Mesh feature when being inside TS mode infront of the TS feature in timeline?

Importing obj and stl objects in new Mesh objects places objects at random positions.

Adding a new base feature inserting the quad mesh cube also results into a scale and triangulation issue.

Currently this renders Fusion 360 for me useless when I have to deal with outside quad mesh data - which is a big part of my process, workflow, and also teaching
since we use various applications dedicated and specialized on the creating of certain 3D data structures using Fusion 360 as the finale bridge that joins
them all together.

Worked flawless before - impossible now 😉

Hello,

You can turn off automatic triangulation of quad meshes using a preference. Just uncheck this box:

image2016-7-1 10:6:56.png

Note that Mesh workspace tools only work on tri-meshes, so you will not be able to edit a quad mesh.

I am looking into your other concerns.

Thank you.

The missing position dialog when inserting a mesh in tspline mode is a bug. We will track it internally. Thank you for your feedback - we appreciate your input.

@mccoym Thanks for the triangulation setting tip. this has to be better documented with new releases.

quad meshes come in now fine. the rest scale and position is still a problem.

Yes, the scale issue is being tracked as a bug. As a workaround, you can use the scale tool to resize your mesh and the Move tool to position it. I understand this is just a workaround - we will fix the original issue as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Manjiri

@mccoym Perfect! But hey this should have been found and solved already before the update - specifically when as a user you cannot not take the uddate!

Claas,

I am unable to replicate the results that you are experiencing where you inset the mesh, but do not get the insert dialog box.  Can you share your model and may I suggest restarting your machine if you have not done so recently.

I am unable to reproduce your issue on machines immediately available to me - thank you for your patience as we continue to investigate why you are not seeing the Mesh Scale/Position dialog after inserting a mesh.

Could you try to insert a mesh on a direct modeling document, after restarting your machine? And do you see this issue on both your Windows machine and Mac?

Do you see this on both Windows 10 and mac OSX?

Is it possible for you to speak with me on Monday? What timezone are you in? I can set up a Goto meeting so I can see your screen.

Thanks!

OK - we have a larger team trying to reproduce this now. Meanwhile, is it possible for you to meet with me on goto meeting? If yes, please email me directly - manjiri.mccoy[at]autodesk.com and I'll set something up for next week.

Thanks,

Manjiri

I have one more thing for you to try - your UI appears to be customized. Could you reset your layout, by going to file menu->view>Reset to Default Layout,?

Hi,

I'm looking into the issue of the mesh body that moves after being scaled: can you provide the dataset?

Thanks,

@luciacasu

How do you reset the UI?

Here are the files.

@LMD001 Resetting the UI does nothing.

The scale import dialog is mainly missing and only visible when I am in a newly created mesh feature

Mesh objects are imported and then placed in random positions unlike their own xyz=0 world position!

Hello Claas,

Yes, the reset to default made no difference, I guess the dev team wanted to rule out some custom settings that could interfere.

Seems like there are quite some issues with the latest update.

The call for some kind of rollback to previous version(s) is very reasonable, and would spare users from these very negative experiences with a basically very promising software.

Unfortunately, some users could even loose confidence in Fusion 360.

Hoping, and confident, that autodesk will resolve these issues very soon.

Best regards,

Ludo
