key pipe at notch workflow

Hi,

I am drawing a tube chassis and would like to key the tubes together to make assembly easier. I have managed to do this by creating a sketch on the tube centerline and making the key then extrude it as a new body past the notch, then to get the corresponding hole I split the inside and outside face of the tube with the key. this is quite time consuming and was wondering if anyone had a better method?
