Keep Parameters window open all the time

It would be nice to have the ability to have the parameters window open all the time instead of having to keep opening it everytime I need to change something.  Would also be nice if you could have it just show User Parameters as that's what I would primarily need to be changing.

We have a plan to add a folder to the browser where you can view your favorite parameters once you've selected them in the parameters dialog. This will allow you to quickly modify favorite parameters without going to the dialog all the time. Would this solve the issue you're descrbing?

That will work, but I think having the option as a separate window might be more useful.  Would be nice if it's dockable like the Browser window is.

When will this be done?  It is a pain to "Open Parameter window", make a change,  "Open Parameter window", make a change,....and on and on....

If I link to a spreadsheet, I can keep the spreadsheet open, inspect / change a variable in the spreadsheet, Click "Save" on the spreadsheet, Click "Update" in Inventor.  The spreadsheet can be kept open the whole time.  It would be much better if Inventor Parameters was a dockable window, and even better if it could be dragged to my 2nd monitor like many of the other dialog boxes.

Yep, these ideas would be great, as well as being able to sort parameters, place them folders to organize, import and export to XL, dock the parameter window, etc etc.

There are several idea station posts about these related functionalities. Can/would Autodesk folks consider consolidating all these related parameter system ideas into one master parameter realization update idea and have all the votes for each consolidated too? The core idea that parameters can be so much more is getting fragmented and so the votes are losing their power!

I have same issue.  I often use user parameters.

My current somewhat hacky solution is threefold.

1) I installed "Parameter I/O" add-in from Autodesk App Store.

This allows exporting and importing of the the parameter spreadsheet to/from a csv file.

2) I installed a light weight csv viewer.

I installed CSVFileView from NirSoft.  It only views does not edit.

I prefer to edit in the Fusion360 parameter spreadsheet.

The simple viewer allows me to have parameters viewable at all times.

In CSVFileView I select AutoRefresh option so it automatically reloads after an export

3) I installed AutoHotKey (autohotkey.com) and created a script for Fustion360

I bound ctrl-shift-p key combo to bring up the parametric spreadsheet

I bound Ctrl-shift-e key combo to bring up the parameter export feature of Parameter I/O

I am attaching my AutoHotKey script so you can modify to your liking.

NB: script filename extension changed to .txt to allow uploading in forum

You will need to change extension to .ahk for AutoHotKey be linked to it.

Once you install AutoHotKey you simply need to right click on an autohotkey script in file browser and select "Run Script"

There is a brief description at the top of the file.

If you need more docs autohotkey.com has very good documentation.

Really?  A request in 2015, still not implemented in 2018???  How hard is it to NOT use a MODAL dialog for the dang Parameters window?  Good heck, this is not a heavy thing on a developer backlog somewhere.   Easy win, just go do it.  Wow.

@keqingsong Hi - Isn’t it about time to get this fixed? It is a very old request. In addition to modal there are a lot of improvement requests to parameters.

Hi @keqingsong

This request is now almost 3 years old and there has been no improvements. As listed in another reply there are lots of other posts requesting the same and I have seen a lot of wishes of being able to sort, group, arrange parameters better. Why don’t you at least START to make some of those improvements, at the very least:

1) Make it non-modal so it can be open all the time if the user wants to

2) Sort the parameters alphabetically

and then improve from there ....

Thanks

A couple of days ago I've found this video but haven't tested the add-in yet. But IMHO it looks promising for perhaps more than some tasks.

i have since found this add in https://github.com/tapnair/ParamEdit

though i wish i could find a way to keep it docked and not dissapear, but it lets me see the parameters and edit existing ones whilst modeling so its a step forward
