Joints on linked parts don't work (and partial work around)

Hello,

I just opened up one of my assemblies containing many linked parts and I found that one of the bodies in the linked parts had moved out of position for no obvious reason when the part updated in the assembly (I'd updated the part but nothing major, just the part name) .

The part/sub assembly looks like this, all the long threaded bar and nuts are joined to the body of the roller bearing unit:

After updating the components in my higher level assembly model it looked like this:

Bearing & bolts main assembly1.JPG

The four threaded rods and bolts are fixed in their correct location in the holes in the beam on the right (trust me this is where they are supposed to be, there is a joint fixing them in position here). However, the roller bearing unit isn't in the right place; it's moved left for some unknown reason and the joints in the linked part can't be working correctly as it's not in position (although the joint failure is not flagged up).

I found that right clicking the joint and selecting "animate joint" moves the joint back to where it should be:

Unfortunately, the rollers were fixed using a rigid group and didn't move back into position. As this is a rigid group I can't use the same trick of animating the joint. I guess I'll just have to remove the assembly and re-insert it into the model. Any ideas on how to stop this happening or to work around it much appreciated.

Best wishes

Jon

Hi @j.hancock01,

Thank you very much for sharing the screen shots.

I have tried to reproduce the issue on a similar design with several levels of Hyperlinked assemblies.

By changing the name of a body and updating the main assembly nothing has been changed in my main assembly

Could you might share your design with us and give us detailed information which body name you have changed?

I would really like to reproduce the issue.

You could share a screen cast with us as well. This would be really helpful.

Thanks,

In case anyone else is reading this, here's another work around I found works sometimes. In the main assembly where you have the issue (parts not in the right place) find the linked component with the problem in the browser,  expand it out and find the joints folder containing the joints which aren't responding. Pick one and right click, select "suppress" then click "unsuppress". I found this forced fusion to re-calculate joint positions and when it unsuppressed the joints things were back where they should be.

Hi @j.hancock01,

Thank you for sharing your file and providing all the detailed information.

Could you tell me the name of the design where the issue appears?

I´d like to reproduce what you have described.

Thanks,

Hi Mike,

Thank you for the post. I sent you the information on the first issue in a Autodesk private message, the second issue (including names of the parts) is described in the word document attached to the email sent to you this morning. Let me know if something isn't clear or if you've not received these. I think email is a better way to communicate on the details of the model rather than these posts if that's ok. If your emails don't reach me then feel free to re-post.

Best wishes

Jon
