Joint origin - in context parts

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi guys,

I am new to the software, trying to figure out the usage of joint origins when I use parts "in context". I can use joint origins only when I break the link to the file (and I like keeping the link). It's like the part is non-selectable to choose faces....

Please, any suggestion on how to join the parts?

Thanks

Hi,

Joint origins are not required for most connections.
Please share the construction or a recreated situation with the desired connection points.

Hi,

I am trying to join these 2 parts by using their bottom radiuses, is it possible? Like in solidworks.

Thanks

Joint Origins are just "Preset" Joint selections that you can add to components you use all the time.  You do not have to Break the Link of Linked components to use them.  Take a look at the Screencast

possible yes.   with the same result, yes.  but not "like in solid works".  if you try to do it in the same way you do it in solid works you'll just get frustrated.  You don't use solid works "mates"  the exact same way as fusion "joints".

Hi @jhackney1972 , thanks for the video.

Unfortunately,Capture.JPG I don't see the Joint origins like in your videos.....

Can you show me how you used them? I wanted to create my own joint origins but

don't know how to.

Thanks

I am sorry, my first video only showed how to use Joint Origins, not create them.  In this Screencast I will do both.  You must remember Joint Origins are not required to create an assembly.  It is just a method of setting up "predefined" joints on components that can carry offsets, angles and of course special locations so some can use the component in an assembly and put it together in a semi-predetermined way.  If you are new to Fusion 360, this is not the first topic to learn, learn to use Joints in the assembly environment first.

Thanks @jhackney1972 ,

The thing is that I have created linked components from within a top assembly and I faced these issues right away.

1. Sheet metal part - cannot create properly unless I open it separately. It's greyed out for all sheet metal operations when in context editing mode.

2. Couldn't add joint origins when I am editing "in context", hence my inability to use them.

I followed your video and everything worked perfectly.

I am trying to model everything from start to finish from inside the top-level file, apparently, I am doing something wrong or Fusion is not there yet.

Maybe you have some inputs.

Cheers

joint origins can't be added while editing in context.  you have to open the original model separately to add those.  don't know why.

That is either a bug or is functionality yet to be implemented. I've come across this as well. @Phil.E could you check this out?

You can always open the linked file and add joint origins that way. Inconvenient, but it works.

just not implemented yet.  On the plan for the next update to Edit In Place.
