Joint Geometry Failed Warning

PROBLEM #1

I have a component with sub-components. From a sketch, I am able to extrude/join to one of the components with no warnings.

After extruding/joining from the same sketch in the body of another component. One of the other components looses its relative position causing a warning message “Update of Joint Geometry Failed.”

I am not working with a parametric time-line. Is it simply a mater of joining the moved component again? Do I need to find and remove the old joint or edit it?

PROBLEM #2

While modifying the project I seem to have inadvertently moved the entire model 1 inch off the Z-axis. One component is grounded. The body joints seem OK until the above problem. Will this movement off centre be an issue?

It sounds like the update to the geometry caused the joint to lose references to the geometry in the modified components. You should be able to edit the joint and update the geometry references. You can also delete and recreate the joint if that is preferable.

When using the move command, you have to be a bit carefu about what "object" is selected.

If you want to move components, makes sure that the component is selected. Otherwise, if you have a "body" selected in the move command, you will be able to change the position of a grounded component. Ground "locks" the origin of that component relative to the root component's origin or coordinate system. This will still allow you to change the position of a body within that component, relative to the component's origin.

As to answer the question regarding whether or not the model will be okay. I would have to guess yes. Keep in mind that you can always promote a previously saved version of the design if you feel like something has gone terribly wrong.

How to promote:

Let me know if this helps and if not, I can reach out to you and we can take a closer look together.

Thanks,

Hi Nathan,

I am working on this to see if I can edit it. It alows me to move the object along the horizontal axis. However, it also needs to move in the vertical axis. I will keep working on this and update the post. If I can not get this joint by Monday, I will need to reachout for futher assistance.

As I am editing these error messages appear once and a while with no apparent changes to component locations.

Hi Nathan,

Sorry for the slow reply. I am still working long hours to get this project out the door.

I found that the matting joint for the body and access cover was altered very slightly by the new geometry that I was adding. I corrected but I am generating more warnings as I work. And I have several modifications to make and each seems to change which joint is in trouble ("warning"). I have also tried the "Suppress Joint" for those that I would expect to have problems as I work.

For now, I have had to proceed and hope that I can fix all of the joints when I am finished making the other modifications.
