Join two components and create custom extrusion

I have two components and I want to have one of the components slide into an opening of another component , similar like the picture below:

What do I need to do to go from the my current 3D model below (also attached as stp file) to have an opening that fits specifically a seperate component (see below) i.e. create an opening for the component to be inserted to - but I want them to act like assemblies not just do a cut

You could use Combine and set to cut to do a Boolean difference but you'll probably need some clearance. So what I'd do is start a sketch on the top face where you want the cutout and draw the shape as a sketch then use Extrude set to cut to make the cavity.

For the assembly see the Help on joints.
