It's soooo slow. Everything takes 15 seconds or more

I've been using Fusion for several months now and, yes, my project is getting larger and more complex. But lately it's just so incredibly slow. It seems like no matter what operation I do it take 15 seconds or more to compete. I click to create a sketch, select the plane for it, and it's busy for fifteen seconds or more before I can actually do any sketching. I add a line to a sketch, decide it's not in the right place and delete it, another fifteen seconds, just to delete a line. I finish the sketch and use it to do a Revolve, fifteen seconds. Everything thing, no matter how simple seems to take fifteen seconds or more.

I realize that I've got a lot of components and each one is fairly complex, but I've only got one NEW one active and all the rest set invisible. So I don't think it's a regenerate-the-whole-project-each-time issue. And the computer I'm running it on is one designed to accommodate a Virtual Reality Headset, so pretty darn fast.

Are there any settings I can change to make Fusion speed up?

Rule of thumbs:

  • Prefer several small and simple sketches over large and complicated sketches
  • Prefer features over sketches (e.g. patterns, mirrors)
  • If it comes to feature based patterns prefer components over faces/features over bodies
  • Edit: Use cosmetic threads during modelling.

Edit: Can you share a slow design?

No pictures so we have no real clue what you're working with. Is the face you're sketching on complicated, you might want to turn off the auto project in preferences so you don't get every edge auto projected into the sketch. This will mean you need to project some references but will simplify your sketches. Also are you following Rule #1 and keeping your components self contained as possible with few cross references to other components.

Good point. Here two more preferences that might speed things up:

  • If you can train yourself to press SHIFT + CTRL + s frequently, you don't need to have tight
  • Disabling the default measurement was posted once in this forum to speed up the UI on larger projects

But it's slow in just STARTING a sketch. I click on the Create Sketch button, select the face it should use for the plane, and it takes 15 to 30 seconds before it finally pops up the sketch dialog and allows me to start sketching. During that time it shows a "busy" indicator as the mouse icon and the background of the browser window turns black.

I tried your suggestion about auto project and it had no effect.

I finally shut down Fusion completely and started it up again. Now it seems to be working normally, without the long delays between operations.
