issue with timeline not reflecting edit process and merging with imported object

i wasn't sure how to title this properly, i am fighting the timeline to adjust the position of one of the components after the fact.

it's for positioning the knobs on a guitar, i want to move one of the potentiometers but keep the prametric creation of the fileted edges of the cutouts

buttonsCapture.PNG

here's what i did:

  • imported the potentiometer model (modeled in fusion) and positioned it
  • duplicated the potentiometer component and positioned it
  • duplicated again and positioned that
  • modeled a cylinder to use as a boolean to cut out a recess and moved it with 'point to point' so it references always on the top of the poti pole.
  • combined via cut and fileted the borders of the cut out recess.

now i realise that one of the potentiometers isn't positioned properly so i want to move it. Since i have history on and followed a pretty clean workflow i thought i could now just scroll back in the timeline to where i positioned the 3rd poti and move it somewhere differently and when i'd go back to the end of the timeline it would have the poti including fileted cutout recess at the new position.

Unfortunately i am unable to find a place in the timeline where i could move it it looks like some of the operations used to create the potentiometer in the first place has been merged with the timeline so the original modeling workflow was lost.

How would i go about something like this ? Is there a way to fix this or should i go back in the timeline and redo the operations differently, what do i need to be aware of so that this works ?

Here's a screencast where you see meunsucessfully trying to figure out where to go in the timeline to move the poti.

btw you can also see a bug i've been having on windows since the last update: the timeline history playhead disappears at some point and sometimes comes back, sometimes not.

That is not a Windows specific bug as that also happens on M's with higher DPI screens. I've had that on my 27" iMac and well as on my 2017 15" MacBook Pro.

Could you share you design ?

unfortunately it's a full scale production model so i'm not comfortable sharing the file. But i have done the same operations on a simulated object and i'm running into the same problems. I used the same procedure as before: import the poti, position it, copy it 2 times, create cylinder referenced to the top centerpoint of the poti poles, cut out the recess, filet. and now i can't figure out how to move the potis after all that. i think something i haven't understood about the timeline yet.

@TrippyLighting ... forum seems broken today, can't edit posts, html preview not working, can't do @Anonymous as usual. so i just posting this comment as a followup to see if the @Anonymous works if entered manually.

Sorry. Lost track of this one.

You can edit the position capture feature in the timeline.

Then you can move the Pot to a different location and click on "Finish capture" and the new location will be stored in the position capture feature.
