Is there any way to slice a component?

I need to render an image of a sectional analysis but there's no option for that so I was going to split body and hide one side, however whenever I try to split my design (which is multiple small components from different projects/files assembled together), it doesn't let me click on anything which I think is because all the parts are "components" and not bodies. Is there anyway I can split it without having to go through every single component file and slice it separately?

It is pretty easy to section a complete assembly but it does not show the various component cross section hatching.  If your materials are set different for each component, you will see the separation between the various components as you see in my screen capture.  You can add Appearances to the cut faces but that will take a lot of time if you assembly is complex.
