hello! I'm learning Fusion and I'm trying to design a Fender Stratocaster style body to machine. Couldn't find any model specifically for fusion that I liked out there so I'm using an old DXF file to save some time in building the profile of the body.

I found it very challenging to work with the spline tools to get exactly the shape I'm going for, and I have plenty of experience in Illustrator, maybe that knowledge is holding me back.

Anyways, I used an existing object to "project" but I ended up with this mess of points and no clear path to getting a good profile. How should I proceed? I can't seem to be able to delete any of the points, and when I try to move things around it all goes haywire with strange curves coming out of nowhere.

if there's tutorial content that takes a look at how to work with this kind of shapes in sketches (all tutorials I could find don't really cover complex curves) I'll be happy to take a look.

Do you want to copy that shape, extrude it, or get to a more efficient sketch, it's not clear.

The sketch has far too many spline points to be useable.  If Show Profile is turned on, then you also have a hole in the boundary cause it is not shaded orange yet.

If it were me, I would use that sketch as a template.  Select all and use the Fix constraint.

Create a new sketch on the same plane, project the straight lines. then use spline tool, and make the profile, with as few points you need, and use the points / handles to correct the shape.

Might help....

is this a Fit Point spline?  If so, I've had pretty good results sometimes in just deleting some of the fit points that are too close to others.  Often, you can simplify the curve just by doing that, and not really losing any of the shape.  I would turn on Curvature Comb on this curve, also.  A nice Curvature Comb will give you a nice surface.
