Is It Possible to Move The Y Axis?

I have a drawing of 1/12th of a circular ring. It's sort of a 'spiral' like a barber pole. I think it needs to be machined with a 4th axis.

 

To that end, I want to move the y axis.

 

I have created a construction axis through two points (in dotted blue in picture).

 

Can I make this the y axis? That way the piece could be rotated around that axis for machining.

 

Any help or advice on this would be much appreciated...

Is the only reason you want to move the Y axis so you can setup in the CAM workspace? If that's the only reason you can orientate the part in the CAM workspace and leave it how it is now in the model workspace, all you need to do is create a plane in the model workspace parallel with the machine bed as a reference.

 

Something like this.

Thanks Mark, that sort of looks like it's working. You are correct, the only reason I want to move the Y axis is to make machining possible (I hope).

 

I'm only a beginner on Fusion 360, so please bear with me.

 

This part is 1/12th of a banjo rim I am trying to design. It's sort of a barber pole type spiral.

 

The shape is deceptively difficult. I think it will require a 4th axis to machine. The two 45 degree faces are the important (and difficult) ones, they are sort of twisted.

 

The two flat faces are the top and bottom of the rim. The attached file shows twelve sections in a ring.

 

Does this look possible to machine with a 4th axis? Are they other ways that I have not considered?

I don't do any 4 axis work but I think you're correct it will need 4 axis. The setups in the CAM workspace are quite flexible, you can use sketches as well as construction features like axis and planes. So you could just make a sketch with a line you want as the centre of rotation and a sketch point you want to use as the origin.
