Inventor 2D sketch not showing in Fusion 360

I'm brand new to Fusion 360 but very familiar with Inventor. I am currently trying to upload a 2D sketch (profile created with no extrusion) in the .ipt format into Fusion. The file has been uploaded and opened but nothing shows up. Can Fusion work with this kind of a file/part type?

If this is an Inventor thing, let me know so I can post in the correct forum. Thanks for any and all help.

Here is a screenshot from Inventor to give a better idea of what I'm talking about.

Hi,

imported ipt do not contain sketches

Try:

Create a solid in Inventor > import ipt > project the solid into a sketch

@rickzacher

Importing inventor files to Fusion 360 will not bring over sketches, Constraints (Fusion Joints) or parameters, and sheet metal parts are converted to standard model bodies. Imported files are in direct modelling mode by default.

The workaround should be as suggested by @g-andresen

Well that's not the answer I wanted to hear 😁.  I guess I'll have to go back to square one and see what can be done. I was hoping to minimize the amount of manipulation my Fusion user was going to have to do. Thanks for your input on this. I do appreciate it.

@rickzacher,

There is another way, Export the Inventor Sketch as *.dxf and Insert the*.dxf file to Fusion 360.

In this process the dimensions and constraints will be lost.

@dsouzasujay Thanks for that tip. I was able to export as .dxf and it loaded into Fusion without any problems. I'm not worried about dimensions or constraints. It's really about the shape and the scale being retained. Now I just need to fix my Inventor code to export to .dxf rather than .ipt.
