intersection curve command problem

Hi All,

In intersection curve command, when I try to join two different sketches (like shown in attached figure). It only accepts 'one' curve from sketch-1 and than for sketch-2 you can select multiple curves. I have to use this command repeatedly by selecting different curves of sketch-1 while staying in the sketch command to make one complete intersection curve out of two sketches.

In Inventor or Catia, one can select complete sketches in one single command and resultantly would get a intersection curve out of them.

The problem doesnt end here, if I later on change one of the main sketches the intersection curve doesn't adopt to the change. Any help/guidance would be really appreciated !!

Thank you for posting!

Can you share a public link of this design with us?

This will help us to investigate this issue.

Yes sure:

I just created the sketches, so might not be visible in A360. Base sketches are: Base_Sketch_Top and Base_Sketch_Side. If you change the side base sketch, the projected sketch will adopt but the intersection sketch will give error.

I might be doing it the wrong way, so please do tell me of any mistakes.

Fahad,

Thank you for the sample file. I can reproduce the this issue quite easily.

I note that if you try to create an intersection curve, using to sketch entities that do not theoretically intersect, you will get a warning, "Project to surface failed, please check the surface or the vector!" The sketch will then be highlighted in yellow in the Timeline (a warning for potential problems).

At this time, I'm not sure if the intersection curve is designed to allow you to select a collection of curves or a loop as input for the "Curve. " It seem like conticontinuous, tangent lines could be grouped together in a single "curve" but this does not appear to be the case. At this time, I'm not sure if this is a defect or Fusion 360 is functioning "As Designed."

I will do some more research into this feature and circle back with an update for you.

Thanks for the good question!

Thanks Nathan,

Will be waiting for more info,

In CATIA there is a command of join (GSD module) which can join elements in sketches or can be used for surfaces as well. It helps in scenarios like these where multiple sketches have to be manipulated. Would be great to have some similar functionality in fusion 360 in future.

I found that this is a known limitation (documented under report reference ID FUS-17018). The good news is I have a work around solution to accomplish the end goal of an associative 3D sketch. See the screencast below for further detail.
