interface doesn't respond to right clicking

Anonymous

I am a fusion 360 newbie and undoubtedly I am doing something stupidly wrong, In a tutorial I have to select and edit a drawing which will be used for a 3d object . Using the Browser I am supposed to right click the Pawn image in the Canvases item (see attachment), then Calibrate but for the life of me  the pawn icon  does not respond to right clicking. I have tried it with different mice and on two computers and no joy.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Fusion 360 Community!

Right click and select 'Selectable/unselectable', after this you can select the Canvas from the UI.

If my answer helped, please 'Accept Solution'

Hi,

I see now what you mean with selectable /unselectable but, that is part of the menu should be able to access  with right clicking on the Pawn icon that isn't popping up for me.  That is the problem. Just to be clear: the attached image in my first post is  a montage of my interface and a screenshot from the tutorial where it is accessible.

Anyhow, hopefully that makes things clearer where the problem is...

Thanks, Moira

Hi @Anonymous

Could you create a screencast showing us?

Hi,

Again a newcomer here  so i think you can see the screencast here?

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/community/screencast/552442a3-8037-48d4-a2c8-bc8bbae54553.

Additional message with the screencast, here without typos "there is a sub menu under the pawn icon and I want to access it to calibrate the image on the screen. Tried with 3 mice and on two computers. Yesterday it worked but today is does not"

Again many thanks in advance.

Ahh...  Thank you for sharing the screencast.  That helps a lot.  A video is worth 10,000 words.

The problem here is that you are in an active command.  You are currently in the "Pan" command:

in pan command.png

While in a command the right click menu is command-specific, and this command does not have any context items.

The simple solution is to just hit ESC to terminate the Pan command.

Hi Jeff ,

To you also many thanks at taking the time to respond. I was so happy with your solution although not for long... with Pan off still no joy. I must be doing something else wrong... See the new screencast.

Thanks again,

Moira

For what it's worth, maybe this is the issue.

Whenever I open Fusion for the first time during the day, I cannot right-click anything until I have zoomed in/out with the mouse wheel. Only then my right-click works.

Maybe that will solve your issue.

Even though that should have worked for you I'm curious. What if you right click on the canvas icon in your timeline, does it show the right click menu?

Hi Phil,

Good to know that I can access the menu also fro the timeline.:=)  but no menu pops up with me. I have made a new screencast  to illustrate this, also showing that if I right click on the object the correct contextual menu does pop put so the mouse  is okay.

Thanks Advocate, but the zooming didn't work :=(.

Thanks again, Moira

@Anonymous

I'm wondering if a complete uninstall and fresh reinstall of Fusion would help with this problem or if it is a bug.

@jeff_strater any thoughts?

Good idea and one that I  tried that before I even sent a post on this question. So it must be some kind of bug? Is the conclusion that it can't be solved at the moment, do you think?

Did you follow the steps in this thread to make sure you removed everything Fusion related?

I haven't been able to reproduce this issue on my Mac or Windows systems.

I can't help but notice the graphics warning at the top of the Fusion 360 Window. Could you run the Graphics Diagnostics command available from the help menu? There's an option to copy this information to the clipboard. Could you reply back and paste the result in the reply?

Do you recall if you installed from the Mac Apple Store or from the Autodesk website?

Do you use any  peripherals such as a space mouse or a tablet that could be "borrowing" the focus when you right click? If there are any drivers for the peripherals running in the background, it may be a good diagnostic test to disable/disconnect all peripheral devices and their drivers.

One last thought is you may try the Open in Low Resolution suggestion in the below link to see if there is any difference in behavior.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Per...

I hope those suggestion help. Looking forward to your update...

Thanks,

Hi,

Thanks for these ideas which I will look at tomorrow (Europe based, end of working day here:=) and let you now if anything works. I do have peripherals like a wacom so maybe. Will let you know what happens.

Thanks.

Success, finally! Downloaded the app from the Itunes store and reinstalled it (I had previously downloaded from the Autodesk website) but again no result. Selected 'Open in Low Resolution', again, no result, but then I ran the Graphics Diagnostics (see below, pasting as requested), checked limit effects to optimize performance and all is well!

I cannot thank you enough. Now I can actually continue the learning curve.

And as it has turned out I was happy too quickly. Everything worked for about 5 minutes and then again, no right click possible so after having down everything on the list a couple of time, etc.  I have given up. Thanks for the ideas and help. Alas!

May I ask what version of Mac OS you are using? I'm wondering if running and OS update might help?

Did you by any chance try disconnect and disabling the Wacom tablet utilities to see if that helped?

Thank you,
