Installing Fusion 360 on second pc

Anonymous
Not applicable

I recently purchase 2 seats of Fusion. I successfully downloaded, installed and lauched on the first computer. My question is - how do I install it on the second pc using the second licence so that it not just an added user on the first licence?

I understand that each license is linked to an email address. How do I get the the second license linked to the second email?

When I login to my account I do not see the serial numbers and keys for either of the two licenses. I suspect that when I go to do the install on the second machine (using the .exe file I initially downloaded) I will be prompted for them.

Thanks!

John

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Fusion 360 Community!

Just a quick tip, just in case you didn't know. Since Fusion 360 is a cloud product, you can download Fusion 360 to as many computers as you want to (for free). The stipulation here comes when you go to log into your account. With your one license you can log into as many computers as you want (one at a time however) with those account credentials. All you have to do is sign in when Fusion prompts you and it grabs your entitlement information.

As for the second license you have purchased - you will have to visit manage.autodesk.com and then assign the license to the user. The steps to do so can be found in this link here.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks,

James - Thanks for the fast reply.

I had come across the link you provided to "Adding or Removing Users" but was concerned that I would be just adding a new user to the first license. In the instructions there is a note that states Note: Added users will have access to an Autodesk Account, but will not have access to products and benefits until they are assigned.

When I add a new user will I have the option to assign him to the second license or is all that invisible in the background and Fusion is smart enough to know that one user is already logged on and therefore automatically looks to the second license?

To install on the 2nd pc can I use the same .exe that I downloaded initially or do I have to go back my account and do another download to the 2nd pc?

Hi @Anonymous,

I'm probably butchering this explanation, and sorry for repeating myself if this is not the answer you were looking for. The way Fusion entitlements work (and for right now let's pretend you bought only one), in a nutshell, is when you buy a commercial license of Fusion, it is tied to one email address on your Autodesk Account. That email address can be used to log you into Fusion on any computer that has Fusion 360 installed. Using that download link (or by using the Free Trial download link here), you can put Fusion 360 for free on any computer you want. The limitation is here you are limited to the trial, or the computer will stop working UNTIL you sign in with your Autodesk email. This is where it notices if you have a valid Fusion entitlement. So theoretically you can use Fusion 360 on your home computer lets say by just installing the software and then when prompted log in (just like with Facebook for instance). Then once you log in, you will see all of your cloud data. Now, let's say you go to your workshop and open Fusion on that computer. Same workflow, log in using your Autodesk email (same one that you used on your home computer), and you will see all of your cloud data again.

Since you've bought 2 licenses of Fusion 360, your Autodesk account is now the Contract Manager and you have access to 2 licenses. The first license is automatically assigned to your Autodesk Account (which by the sounds of it is what you want). By following the workflow in that link, on your user management page hit the blue add user button (looks like a plus sign). You can assign a user to that empty license by entering their email address and name when prompted. Once you hit save, it will bring up a page that will allow you to assign any available licenses. Once he is assigned that license, that email address is now valid to use Fusion 360. You can verify this by logging out of Fusion 360 (if you are automatically signed into your main account) and then logging in with the secondary email. Then, go into the Help menui (top-right corner of Fusion 360) and select About. Under Active Plan you should see it say Subscription or something along those lines.

To install Fusion 360 on your new computer, I would just use the link I provided above for the Free Trial. Like I said, once you log in using your email, it will recognize whether or not you have paid for a subscription using that email address or if it is indeed a trial.

Thanks,

That worked! I now have myself and a 2nd user up and running and we can both launch Fusion simultaneously.

But.... I have added a third user but when I go to edit access all of the "assign" buttons greyed out.

Hi @Anonymous,

Nice!!! Allright, let's try to troubleshoot this. Can you post a screen shot of what you are seeing. I am not sure why it would be greyed out to be honest. Are you following the same procedure as before of buying the license and assigning the user? So there are three licenses for all three users?

I just re-read the first paragraph of your previous post ... It sounds like any additional users beyond the first two will need to sign in using the credentials of either user 1 or user 2. Is that correct?

Hi @Anonymous,

No. My first paragraph was saying how one user could access multiple computers. For example like you signing into Facebook on multiple computers, you don't need multiple accounts.

For three separate users, you will need three separate licenses. Since at this moment you only have two licenses, only two users can have access to Fusion 360. Try not to think of how many computers can run Fusion 360. Think of it as one license per indivudal user (individual user means having their own cloud data, own identity within Fusion, etc). If three separate users want to use Fusion 360 (for example you, me, and Joe) we would need three individual subscriptions to Fusion 360.

Sorry if that is confusing! If you still need help that may discuss personal information, feel free to private message me and we can take this offline.

Thanks,

No, not confusing. Thanks for all your help.

It kind of panned out the way I thought it would. I just didn't want to move forward and add users not knowing if that was the correct path, then find myself having to back out and re-do stuff.
