Import DXF - Svg scaled ...no 1:1

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to import a file created in Fusion 360 from a friend with Autocad DXF extension.
What I do not understand is why when I design something or another in each when the amount FUSION is never in a 1: 1 but always different and incorrect.

I need this because I use a non-Autodesk CAD software and often file suits me save in dxf .. and I would like them then extrude and change as a simple sketch in fusion ..

There is some detail that I have not set?

Thank you
Manuel

Are you trying to import and export sketches or solid models. I you're working with sketches then insert DXF will read the units in the DXF file also if you right click a sketch and pick Save As DXF Fusion does save the file with unit information.

Insert dialog

I have no problem importing DXF files from Rhino, the unit information is read by Fusion. Exporting a file to Rhino doesn't work as well because Rhino doesn't read the unit information in the file so you have to set the units while importing.

I just ran a test exporting a file from Rhino in inches and uploaded through the data panel, when I open the file the 1 inche cube opened with the document set to mm and the cube measured 25.4mm, after changing the document units to inch it measured 1 inch so it is the correct size, it just opened in the wrong units.

What program are you trying to export to and does it save unit information in the file, can you upload a sample.

Although it looks like you've set the export options to mm in this screen shot when I look in the DXF file you attached the units are set to inches so I guess the import is 25.4 times too big.

In a DXF file there's a variable $INSUNITS that sets the units for the file and in your file it's set to 1. Here's what the setting for $INSUNITS means.

And here's the setting in your file.

So the problems in the program you exported from not Fusion.

Here's a screen shot from another program that reports the file units as inches when it opens the file.

I'm afraid the problem is not with Fusion, if the programs you're using don't set the units in the DXF file Fusion has no idea what they should be. Attached are 2 file exported from Rhino, one is a 50mm square saved in millimeters and one is a 2 inch square saved in inches. If you set Fusion to mm and import the 2 inch square it comes in as 50.8 if you set Fusion to inches it comes in as 2 inches, the same for the 50mm square, 1.969 inches with Fusion set to inches. If you have problems with the programs you're using you should report the bug to them as they're not setting the units in the file so Fusion defaults to mm.

Hello Mark, thanks for your continued help
When I load the file into Rhino 50mm Fusion360 is like you said, 50x50mm
Loading the file in inch correto I understand the value of being 50.8 25.4 = 1  🙂

since it is correct the result of the two files that I've attached Fusion is aposto and like you said ... the problem is in my software I use to design .... and unfortunately I can not find where the problem is 😞

For example... this file is 50% ...1:2 .... why?  how do I bring it 1: 1?

The file template shows a scale of 2:1 so that's why it 50% of the size.

Clipboard02.png

One option is after import close the sketch and run scale from the modify menu, then select the sketch in the browser and scale by 2. The sketch will only be scaled after that point in the time line so if you edit the sketch it will be at the original size.

Something else you can try is download QCad, I've done some tests and if you set the units and size, drawings from QCad come into Fusion at the correct size. I edited your file in QCad and scaled it by 2 and it imports to Fusion correctly. File attached.

QCad download.

Drawing preferences in QCad I've tested inch and mm and they both work.

One note on your drawing there are double lines on the right side fror some reason.

Thanks mark for having shown the error in design.

In addition to this I tried to climb and in fact if I change something in the sketch back to normal and as you highlighted 1: 2.

For now I did as you suggested, I opened the file in my cad, enlarged by 50% 1: 1 - exported in DXF and reopened corrected in F360 Smiley Happy

convert / export from Illustrator remains a mystery 😄
