Import 2d drawings

We have 40 years worth of 2d drawings, with no models. Is there no way to load these drawing into f360. I tried saving them as dwg files but did could not get text or dimensions to import. Also. In the Android companion app I could. Not view the drawings at all.

Hi patvburden,

If I am understanding the request correctly, what you are trying to do will not work. Fusion is not a 2D drawing (dwg file format) editor.  It is primarily a 3D design application (f3d file format) which has drawings functionality (place views of the model, dimension them, etc.) in its own drawing file (f2d file format).  If the DWG you have has 3D geometry in it, that can be uploaded to Fusion and opened, but we can't open/edit existing legacy 2D dwg files.

Thanks,

Chris

It's a feature that would be greatly appreciated as more people use Fusion 360 for 3d printing. A vector line drawing imported into Fusion 360 as a 2d sketch that can be extruded would be a very useful thing. I was surprised to find this feature missing. It makes me turn away from the product in search of another that can do this seemingly simple thing.

Actually it seems you can sorta do it in a round about way though the SVG vector graphics filetype. You can trace your bitmap in illustrator or Inkscape (like below) and plop it into Fusion 360 according to this tutorial.

Maybe I do not completely understand the question. I have imported a lot of legacy stuff by saving 2d info as DXF. If you have DWgs you can easily do that. I use Draftsight.  Dimensions could be adjusted there if needed.

The DXF can be imported into a sketch, and then you are able to go back into 3d.

Hi carrdav,

What file format is the 2D drawing you want to import?  If you have a DXF you can import this into your design as Sketch geometry using this option:Insert.png

Thanks,

Chris
