I have Base model with history - how to go full parametric....

You can read this also as customer experience story. I have worked with Solidworks, Inventor, Mastercam.

First a bit bigger project with Fusion360:

1. imported an assembly (later found out that Fusion goes straight to Direct mode)

2. started to add parts

3. noticed no history - shock - googling -> ok, have to put 'Capture history' on manually, strange but ok done

4. adding features

5. tried to go back to old sketches and features, some can change some cannot. More googling, learning about Base feature that exist in my model.

So is there a workaround to change Base feature to something that would live happily in my parametric project?

ok, I though it might be problematic.

Is there perhaps a way to import features and sketches to another part, if I start over and do new part - I would hate to lose all the work I did.

Feature request in my mind now: Check box in preferences: [x[ Disable all direct modelling features from this program (right now would love to have it!) Too confusing.

@torstil

Certain things can not be done in a parametric history based environment so having a button that disables it would cause a lot of confusion for new users...even more then the problem you currently ran into. Short answer is you really just need to learn Fusions ins and outs if you plan to use it. Working on important large projects without going through the help section is just asking for a lot of headaches and frustration. Hopefully you are using components correctly or your current problem is going to seem very trivial compared to that problem.

I do agree however that it would be nice if Fusion turned history on after opening dumb solids. There might be something on this in the ideastation and if not you should add it and see if others agree.

The only reasonable way is to start over again. There might be some shortcuts but they would just increase overall confusion.

An idea to remove DM from Fusion is like throwing away a hammer since we have a wrench in a toolbox.

Well, I was not 100% serious with this feature request - although throwing hammers around inside garage do happen when things suck... 🙂

Take this advice seriously and consider remodeling. It will take you more time to find and check workarounds then to rebuild.
