port frame v3 (v3~recovered).jpg

the face that you see is selected and the one to the right of it will not allow me to draw on them, I also can not select them in cam. does anyone have any idea why that is? I am attempting to machine out a dado that follows the arch of that face around the perimeter.

Your title say "drawing", but I suspect that you really mean model sketch.
If so, is the face planar?
Can you project from a planar sketch?
Can you sketch a profile on a perpendicular plane for Sweep?

Hi,

You mean sketch

If iit's not letting you create a sketch on that face , it means it's not flat

In that case, create an offset plane from that face, and create a sketch on it

then use the extrude from object command and select the face so that the extrusion takes the shape of the curved face you want to extrude from

that's part of my issue as well, it will not allow me to create an offset plane from that face, and if I create and offset plane from another plane it will not allow me to extrude to an object

Hi,

planes are always flat, so create a horizontal one

Create one from the origin and drag it up, then sketch on it and extrude from object

if it didn't work with you, tell me and I'll create a screencast right away for you

Have you tried the sweep command, you can use the edge of that face for the path, but you will need 3d sketches to work with that / any curved face.

Might help...

so this was a great help! i have split the face but now it will not allow me to do anything with it. here is a link to what I have done to this point, http://a360.co/2rY1Eoz. what I am trying to do is do an extrude cut down about .5" from the sketch that you helped me project to the outside of the body.

I appreciate you help on this.
