How to select sketches explicitly?

Having huge trouble selecting the ring enclosed by the two circles, in order to make an extrusion outwards .

An inward extrusion (cut) of the small circle was already done. However, I can not select the sketch of that outer ring. Must I create a new parallel reference plane other than "plane 6" from outside and draw a new sketch there for being able to select the ring?

Move your cursor over the sketch, left click and hold, a dialog box will appear with all of the entities under the cursor and select the one that you want.

Hi,

this is what @wmhazzard  recommended

Just turn off the visibility of the other sketches, planes, and bodies.  Once you have the profile selected for extrusion, you can turn visibility back on if you need it for the extrusion. For example: using it as the To Object selection.

Thanks for the demonstration. However, this is what I wanted to achieve. (I ended up creating a new plane and finally I´m able to select the object enclosed by those two circles in the "plane 7", which I couldn´t do in the "plane 6".)

Hi,

The reason you cannot select a ring profile is that the two circles are not in the same sketch and therefore do not generate a profile.
Solution: Project the circle from sketch 17 into sketch 19.

Oh, that is the reason. Thank you so much for explaining this with the screencast.
