How to model the ends of a spring

I would like to understand how to model the ends of these springs in Fusion 360.  I understand the method to create a coil but the ends of these springs finish so that they are flat.  I haven't been able to find a tutorial on this.

Hello,

I attached a spring model with two ends. For both ends I used Sweep feature.

1. common flat end - flat sketch

2. custom end - 3d spline

Thank you for your quick response and yes your example really helped me.  Thank you

Although the approach to create a "common flat end" is suitable for my current purposes I couldn't help but notice there is an unnatural bend where the sweep joins the coil. I have attached an image of this.  I guess I could make the join more natural with a 3d spline but this seems a little fiddly to get right.  Are there moves afoot to get make the creation of more realistic springs underway?

Hello,

There is possible to create more natural bend for End of Spring. I attached video and model where you can see how to create it. It really depends on a shape of the end of spring.

I used 3D spline for this Spring end which is created by 3D projected points from two sketches.

  1. Create sketch with important points for spline
  2. Create sketch in angle (similar angle of the spring) - project points that are on angular path
  3. Create sketch for flat end (offset sketch ) - project rest of points
  4. Create sketch and Project points for 3d spline
  5. Create 3D spline in the last sketch
  6. Use Sweep

Also there is important to allow 3d sketching .. in Preferences.
