How to fix a surface model with curvature?

Hello!

So I'm having some difficulties with getting a hole closed on my surface model. I have tried many approaches (including patch, loft, add lines and splines by hand then loft, etc), and also browsed the internet for about 2 hours (including the Fusion help board, though I may not be using the right words) but haven't found anything that worked the way I needed it to. I'm not a complete noob to Fusion, but I am a noob to the mesh environment and working with curves in general. I've included a screencast for clarity.

I've scanned a part off my motorcycle and imported the mesh into Fusion360 and converted it to BRep and am now able to edit the faces. I'm trying to clean up the model, as the scan wasn't the best.. and I figured instead of continually trying to get a perfect one, I'd just work with what I have even though I can't get a lot of the repairs to follow the natural curve of the object.

I have the piece on hand, so I know how it needs to look and the rough measurements, but I don't know how to go about that. Is there a way to make an easily modifiable mesh plane that works with reference points in 3D space?

Hey ogradysjr,

The best way to go about this is probably to rebuild the mesh using the Mesh Section tool. The UI has been updated since this video was made, but the process is the same.

Basically, you want to create mesh section planes, edit those sketches, then use the Fit Curve to Mesh Section tool to make that geometry usable.

You can then use loft, sweep, or any other tool in the Surface workspace to rebuild it.

Thank you Jonathan!

I had watched this tutorial before you had posted this and found it very helpful. The main issue was that I had not taken the time to do a lot of the work manually and instead used my time to research a more automated process. Looking back though, I realize how complicated something like this would be to automate, but hopefully something is developed in the future!
