How to extend a mesh?

I have an STL of a handle and need to make it longer. I imported the mesh with the right units and then split it along the middle and moved each half out the desired length. However I can't figure out if there's a way to now fill the gap in between. I tried Erase and Fill but it had no effect when either selecting the faces or the two meshes so I guess that's not it. Combine is not it either. Is the only way to do this to convert it into a body (either the original single mesh or the two mesh halves)?

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

Thanks for the reply but I got it figured out and just converted the mesh to a body. The only thing was when I tried to convert with Precise resolution, the operation seemed to silently fail. It would complete but nothing happened. However if I did High resolution it worked (although the conversion wasn't as perfect as I would have liked).

So I think I'm good for now.

The other option would be to create the filler section as a solid model, convert it to a mesh which can then be joined to the other mesh sections.
