In Solid Edge I could drag a library part into my assembly and drop it where it will be inserted.

How can I duplicate that in Fusion?

Fusion insists to change my view  and scaling and then drops the part in the middle of the assembly regardless where I wanted it.

Presumably I am overlooking something.

Yep, he he, I feel your pain 😉 Done the same thing in Solid Works.

When you insert an existing component into Fusion 360 it aligns the top level origin of that inserted design with the top level origin of the design it's inserted to. Then you are presented with the 3D manipulator where you want it. That experience can be anywhere from sightly tedious to maddening.

That is a very disappointing "feature".  I thought I was doing something wrong.

It ought to be an easy option do add:  Drop the part where the cursor is and do not re-scale the view.
