How to design this: (Workflow question) Motormount in cross shape rounded profiles

Hi,

I want to build a motor casing and am struggling with something super simple.

What is the best way to design this shape?

Cross mount with rounded corners.

I tried

  • build two center point rectangles (40x7.5mm, 90° degrees rotated) and use the sketch fillet tool on the outer corners. BUT a) the fillets become broken and have loose end-points. b) When I do the inner fillet between the legs, the fillet deletes the other sides of the squares and I would have to re-draw the sides to create the inner larger fillet
  • build four circles with the outer diameter of the round tip (7.5mm diameter) with a smaller circles inside for the hole. Then I spaced the four circles with a distance of the total width minus the wall strength between the tip and the hole in the tip. BUT then I have the issue that it is messy to constrain the whole assembly to the outer dimensions as I have to work in fractions all the time. Also I am still having the issue of the inner fillet....
  • build one quarter segment and build a circular array to copy it. Then trim off everything and re-connect the inner fillets.
  • build everything around the holes. So I build the four circles to create the roundet tips. then I create lines connected each of the center points and make them horizontal/vertical so that I have my cross and spacing. Then I create all other circles for holes and space them in distance to each other. Then I create lines for the outer shape as tangent to the circles of the outer shape and then the sketch fillet for the inner fillet.

But boy all these ways sound way to complicated. I tried all of them and find all of them tideous.

How would you solve this?

Any tipps or quick video would be very welcome

I agree with you, too hard, convoluted and unnecessary.

Simple sketches lead to quick modelling tools.

Hey you two,

Big thanks for the cool solutions. I see a strong tendency there: Get quickly to the modelling tools as it is faster to do it there, then to try to sketch everything in one go.

Man both are so much simpler and straight forward!

Thank you!

@davebYYPCU

The 45deg dimension isn’t needed.
Simple horizontal or vertical line.

Correct, realised too late.  ( I could blame the photo, but I know better)
