How to create independent parametric body copies?

Is it possible to copy and paste a t-spline body so that the new copy's form will still be editable? Every time I copy and paste, it creates an instance of the original.

I'm simply trying to brainstorm multiple variations of a part design. Is there a different way I should go about this to retain an original to start from each time?

To do a deep-copy for a TSpline body, you can simply select TSpline body browser entry node. On its context menu, select "Copy" and then click "Paste" on the context menu of the corresponding component. Then the TSpline body can be edited separately.

After the paste, you can move the copy to some other place and do your edit on them.

For your issue about "Every time I copy and paste, it creates an instance of the original", I think you are trying to copy/paste an component instance. For example (see below shots), if you select the component instance to copy, the paste result is always the instance of original one unless you select the "Paste New" option.

Note that the TSpline body is located in the "Component 1". Default paste behavior for component is always to recreate an instance of original component.

Hope this helps.

Happy new year.

OK. So the copy needs to be made while in sculpt mode. That seems to be the trick I was missing.

It then copies the geometry and they seem to always be associated in the same body icon in the activity list on the bottom of the screen. In other words, if I want to edit the form of the original or the copy, I will always go  to the same body icon in the activity list. Is this correct?

Thank you so much.

If you are in parametric modeling environment and you want to edit the TSpline body, you have to activate the form feature on timeline first (by double click it or the context menu item).

The BREP body (with this type icon brep_body_icon.png) are the result converted from the TSpline body (with icon ts_body_icon.png). Usually, the BREP body and the TSpline body are one-to-one mapping relationship (but if the TSpline body contains some separate lumps. There will be multiple BREP bodies after the conversion).

P.s. I found some content of my replies are lost. So add them again. Hope it's more clear 🙂
