hi, Im trying to create  a cutting tool for another piece and i need a wavy flat ribbon that is circular ,  it should have a flat surface bigger than the size of whatever im trying to cut.

please see the attached screen shot. it will show the lines and how they should work, i just need them to be a surface that i can use as a cutting tool.

thank you

I'm afraid your description does not make sense to me. Let's just talk about the circular one.

First, the words Flat and Wavy are contradictory. So that confuses me.

Second, I'm not clear on whether it's supposed to cut radially, as in it's a cutting wheel that you roll along the material to be cut, or it's supposed to cut axially, as in you push the whole circle down like a cookie cutter. Radially makes sense to me, but axially does not, because if the cutting edge is wavy then of course it wouldn't cut a circle out of flat material.

Can you elaborate?

Create > Create Form, Create > Sphere to create a sphere.
Select a lower hemisphere of a sphere, and hit Delete key to delete it.
Select an upper hemisphere of a sphere, and Modify >
Edit Form.
Select Scale Manipulator and enter 0 to make it flat.

Select faces you don't need, and hit Delete key to delete it.
Select four edges and move it upwards, and move the others downwards as well.

Adjust the diameter of a sphere and number of longitude faces to get a circular surface you want.

Sure, you COULD use a Form. And you will certainly have a result.

But what if you want that result to be parametric? What if you want to precisely control the dimensions? Unless you have some particular reason not to do it, I would strongly suggest modeling it with Sketches instead.

That look super interesting!

Hi could you possibly upload that file so i can go through the timeline and understand the process fully? 🙂

or more detailed screen cast of the process? from scratch? whatever is easier for yourself 🙂

I thought I was reasonably thorough in showing you all the details in that video. Is there something specific that you don't get?

Hi,

Ive watched it about 7 or 8 times now, i get the system thats working sort of , I just dont understand the constraints tied to each line and how they work together. i cant tell why the circles have so many points around them, how the strip is even formed (is it a sweep?)   i am still learning fusion so my apologies for not graspiong it fully. if you able to be any clearer, or even walk through the process on another screen cast i would be super greatful!

cheers
