How to create a 1/3 or 1/4 turn thread?

See attached image to show what I'm trying to do.

Basically, I don't want a full spiral thread that goes all the way around.  I only way one large 1/3 turn thread with a stop.  That way the object can bet inserted into an adjoining piece that simply has 3 extrusions that hold and rail against the thread.  Is there any way to do this or is there a video?  The thread is changing shapes in 3 dimensions.  First, it has to be circular to the surface holding the thread.  Second is has to increase in size like a thread to tighten.  And forth it needs to have a stop.

Hey @Anonymous

you can use the spiral tool and set the feature as you desire, I have put together something here check this out and see if it does the job. Sorry about the sound, I leave in a main road and it is quite noise here.

On option is Spiral which is the quicker to do it, and another but complex option would be a sweep or loft cut. With 2 end profile and the spiral as guide line.

Thanks.  That looks great.  Actually, since I didn't have an answer right away, I kept experimenting and I ended up doing your second option and it was pretty easy.  Impressed myself in fact since I've only been using this tool for 3 days.

I created a circular path, then sketch on both sides of the plane, one smaller, with a loft joining the two.

I didn't add the stop but that is easy enough.  I'm going to study your solution better so I can understand it.  You are very quick Smiley Wink so I didn't follow everything but I can see you got the right solution.  I'll replicate with pause/stop.

There are a lot of way to accomplish this in Fusion 360. I took a blind stab at it and recorded it via Autodesk Screencast. The result is a bit long, but it's my first go at the design...

Note that the solution was to use a two sketch profiles and a path to create a 100% custom thread. I was unclear about some of the details of how the thread should look, but I hope it helps anyway.

Here is a sample of the file for download if you'd like to take a closer look.

Nathan is there a way to "slow down" the play or blow the video up on my end that I'm not seeing?

Ok never mind on second question...I took a guess, renamed the zip file to .f3d and imported it.

You should be able to fullscreen the screen cast with the button in the below image...

I'm not aware of anyway to slow it down; however, you could try moving the timeline slider to scale the command timeline. This will reveal the command in the video at a specific time point in the video.

I hope that helps. Let me know if there are any questions!

Ok thanks.  For some reason I don't have the full screen icon.  Oh well..  I'll just have to watch it a bunch of times.

@Anonymous

Sorry about the incovenience with the video size!.

As when I embed the video in the comment it was set to display here only, and the provided size. Thanks for the feed back.

I may not limited it on next time.

and Thanks to @innovatenate as you did what I would do as second option, 2 end profiles and sweep/loft cut using the related edge as guide line.

I already marked your post as "accept as solution" right after you posted it.  It is not an option anymore on your post.  The limit is probably for bandwidth storage reasons on the forum server.  It looks like it reduces the size.   I can accept the second option as a solution "as well".

@San_Escobar No Problem-O! Thank you for your contribution!

@Anonymous For the video size issue, one thing that may help is to adjust the text scaling setting on the computer (assuming Windows OS).

Adjusting Text Scaling:

1. Browse to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display
2. Set the text size to the Smaller 100% setting
3. In the Set custom text size (DPI) dialog, set the Scale to this percentage of normal size field to 100%

Another setting may be in the web browser itself...  For example, the setting in Chrome is right on the main menu... You may want to check that zoom is at 100%...

After adjusting this setting, do you see the fullscreen button?

If not, I can check with someone on the Screencast team to see why this would happen and get back to you.

Thanks!

When I try to do what you did it doesn't work.  I create the offset plane, I split the face, and then when I try to resize the piece that has been cut, to pull it out larger, it still resizes the "WHOLE THING" instead of just the face part that was cut.  I've done it 5 times now and each time it does the exact same thing following step by step what you did.  The only thing I did differently than you is I "renamed" the body earlier.  So once the body has been renamed it can't be split?  I've also tried splitting the body instead of the face, and the same thing happen. It NEVER actually SPLITS the body creating a new body.  Well, I see the new body on the left side but when I size the new body, it sizes BOTH bodies as if they were "not split".  Even if I turn off the old body, showing on the new split face and resize that, it STILL resizes the whole thing once the rest of the body is shown.

Whenever you select the Press/Pull tool, is the Offset type set to New Offset, Automatic, or Modify Existing Feature?

If this doesn't help, could you record an Autodesk Screencast of what you're seeing? It would be a big help to see what the exact picks and clicks you're making. I've tried renaming the body on my end, but don't seeem to be able to reproduce the issue.

Thanks,

What is the fastest way to create multiple layers of partial-circumference threads like the ones in your video?

Thanks!
