How should I split this model into sections for printing?

Hi, This model is the lid of a fish tank.

At present mosquitoes are landing in the water and breeding inside the house!

The idea is I will glue in some fly wire and this will be a cap.

It is too big to print on my Prusa Mk3s. I have designed it that it can be printed in four sections...with some joining tabs. My problem is I'm struggling to create 4 separate sections that I can save separately ready to pass over to Prusa slicer. Each time I push pull up it ends up joining bodies back together again.

I'm not sure if this is the best method..and also a bit unsure how I can split it into the 4 separate bodies I need?

Should I create components?

A work around is to pull up one section...then save...then flatten...then do the next section. I assume there is probably a way to just create all the 4 sections and save them individually. Thanks for any clues on how you would approach this. (I'm still learning basics!) Thanks.

Hi,

Have you tried the splitting and joining tools in Prusa Sclicer?

You do not need to save anything individually.
Simply split into 4 parts and save each part as an STL.

Thanks. It's the 'split into 4 parts' where my problem is. I select the parts of sketch I want and push pull. This creates a body. But then when I select a new sketch and create a new body.. it ends up merging with the other body... Particularly as I have to select the outer rectangle and extrude it bigger again. I

Do I choose 'join:, ,New body' or 'component'. Logically I think 'new body' but for some reason I end up getting it merging with earlier bodies. I'm being tricked by something basic.. but I don't know what it is! Thanks.

Don't pull anything.
Just split the body.

The best will be to upload your file.

Hi All. I found out the solution to my problem on a reddit post and what was causing it. When I extruded a secondary outer rim..it was joining to the first body..not the second..solution was here:

Problem:

Nope. Fusion will try to guess what body you want to join to based on where the sketch starts/what it hits, but there is no hard selection option.

Solution:

. If you hide the bodies you don’t want to join while you have the extrude menu open it will only join the visible body/bodies that are visible, and the ones you hid while the menu was open will reappear once you close ok or cancel

Thanks all..I needed to hide bodies..then join..then use the "Save as Mesh feature" as shown above. Thank you!
