How do I stop bodies from automatically combining with one another?

Hello! I have been looking for a solution for this issue for a while and have not found anything, thought I'd give the forum a try.

The issue is that when I create a new object, like a box, it sometimes combines with another object I move it on top of. For instance I have a large rectangle, then I create a separate box and move it on top of the larger rectangle. The box then becomes one with the rectangle. This is an issue because if I want to change the position of the smaller box I am unable to. In the layers panel it shows up as one object. I found out this had happened when a colored cylinder I had placed inside a cutout of another object lost its color and combined with the other, larger object. Does anyone know how to turn the feature off? Or maybe how to separate the two combined objects?

I have included screenshots of some examples of the issue.

With whatever tool you're using, extrude for example make sure the operation is set to New Body.

Edit the feature from the timeline and change the operation from join to New Body.

If things are separate parts, create them as separate COMPONENTS. Define their relative positions with JOINTS.

DON'T just make separate bodies withing a single Component and AVOID use of the Move tool.

Sounds like you need to put yourself through some of the beginner help tutorials/videos.
