Chamfered Nut

Project:   40mm Nut and Nut

Media:  3d printing

Desire:  To have chamfered edge on top and bottom of thread opening, making it easier for the threads to mesh upon insertion of the bolt.

Chamfer:  1.5mm

Issue:  When chamfering the openings, the threads print closed at the entrance.  Both on the top and bottom of the nut.  I can see this in Fusion and when printing the parts.

If I don't chamfer the openings, the parts mesh perfectly.  But it is hard to align the bolt with the nut to get it started.

Goal:  To make it easy for the bolt to start upon threading it in.

Don't use the hole feature to create a chamfered threaded hole.

1. Create a sketch with a circle and use that to extrude a hole.

2. Chamfer the hole

3. Apply a thread to the hole. Now the thread start is "closed" as you described.

4. Pull the chamfer feature in the timeline to just before the thread feature.

Pretty silly that we still have to use this workaround, but it is what it is 😉
