How do I get the components to have a unique color?

(I did check answers for this but they are all 5 years old)

Each time I create a component I get the same color. Also the timeline seems to be using a different color.

How I create a new component is:

1. make all current components invisible.

2. From "Design" mode. click "create sketch" from the create dropdown

3. Edit sketch

4. use press pull

5. the new body appears in the bodies folder on browser menu

6. Give body new name

7. right click on body and create component

In the videos I watched, every time they create a new component it's a different color, and the time line has the corresponding colors over it. I did make 2 bodies/components from the same sketch and those are different colors.

I have "Component color swatch" checked (it is greyed out)

I have clicked on "component color cycling toggle", but all it does is shut of the unique colors

The color bar over the timeline also a different color than all of my components.

How do I make the colors like in the tutorial videos?

Here is a picture of what I see with some lines drawn on to represent what I want to see:

You have the process of creating Components a little out of wack.  Normally you create the component before any sketching or creation of bodies occur.  If you use this method, all sketches and bodies fall under the component and I think you will get the colors you desire.  The Screencast will explain further.

Thanks this worked. The videos start in states, and aren't very clear how they get there. The do a good job of explaining the more complex concepts, but gloss over the simple ones.

This no longer works. It is now creating a body as part of the componet. How do I fix this and make the current coponents that  are bodies into components without losing their timeline?

Tried to add a screen cast but it didn't work for some reason. Here is the link to it

Of course it creates body in a component and it's how should it be. Body is the 3D geometry you create, Component is a way of organizing bodies. Check here for details. Also I suggest watching Self-paced Learning courses to getting familiarized with the basic concepts of Fusion 360.

Now to your question: From your screencast there reason you see the color bars in Timeline and Browser but not colored components is that you have only enabled Component Color Swatch:

But for the components themselves to be colored in the viewport you should also toggle the Component Color Cycling on. I believe @jhackney1972 already showed you this in his screencast, so it might be that you overlooked the fact that it's a toggle; so if you do it twice it turn back to what it was:
