How do I create sheet metal parts in Fusion 360?

I'm new to Fusion 360 and can follow the tutorials pretty well, but they are all solid items.  I need to create bent sheet metal parts which also include cut-outs.  I have no idea where or how to start on this.

Hi and welcome to the Fusion 360 forum.

I'm glad to hear you are anxiously awaiting sheet metal. Yesterday Mike Prom posted this update:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/preview-functionality/sheet-metal-status-update/td-p/7106344

I post that link in case you want to follow sheet metal and perhaps the other preview functionality.

The link there takes you to this blog post (for your convenience, posted here):

https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/blog/fusion-360-sheet-metal-status-update/

From the blog post, the quote you are looking for:

"Our target for the public release of sheet metal is July 24th."

Looking forward to hearing your feedback once this is in your hands. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Regards,

hey thanks Phil for the great response!

Really looking forward to this feature.

I must add, as 3D game artist i'm finding fusion to be completely taking over my hard surface modeling workflow for creating high resolution meshes and sheet metal will add even more to this already great package. thanks again

Don't hold your breath. I've asked this question 2 years ago and they keep saying soon. Very poor handling of this issue from Autodesk!

Hey @Anonymous - sorry to hear you haven't recieved the info you wanted!  The team has been working hard on getting feedback from the Sheetmetal Preview since the beginning of 2017, and you'll see our initial public release in August.  By chance do you keep an eye on our Design Differently blog?  It's where we communicate on all things happening in Fusion 360.

There was an initial blog post from Bryce a year ago here, followed by a few posts where we discussed progress on Sheetmetal - Feb 13, April 25, June 8.  In the Feb 13 post we also mention our Preview forum where we have additional details on how people could sign up for the preview of Sheetmetal.  We've been able to collect a lot of great feedback which is helping us transition to the public release in August.

Cheers,

~Brian

I think his frustration is more from the lack of a release rather than any communication about the product.  It just slipped another couple of weeks so I can understand his frustration though I don't share it.   I'm curious to see it but not curious enough but not enough to to join the preview as I wouldn't be doing anything of note where I could contribute.    When it's released I'll kick the tires.

In addition to Solidworks I also use Bendtech which is more or less an automotive/motorsport tubing fabrication tool with a sheet/plate module.  The Bendtech interface isn't near as sexy (and intutive) as the F360 interface but it does the work except for nesting.   I try to use the nesting features of the CAM specific to whatever tool I'm using.  (Flow Nest, Torchmate, etc) Though in reality over the last 6 years or so I've probably nested the majority by hand  (or at least a significant number) in something like Autocad or Corel.

They are making use weight so when they push it out what's there is working, I would say they don't wont a few 1000 post complaining it fails or crashes, like they got when the move command got changed.

Is sheet metal still not available? It still doesn't show up in the menu it claims to be in the tutorial video here  https://f360ap.autodesk.com/courses/sheet-metal/lessons/creating-a-sheet-metal-component, my menu only lists "Sculpt, Model, Patch, Mesh, Render, Animation, Simulation, Manufacture, and Drawing", but has no entry for Sheet Metal?? How can I access the Sheet Metal Tool? I have Fusion360 version 2.0.5511.
