How can I create the same "view" in different models? (For rendering)

I have several completely separate models (roughly the same size, though) and I want to render them all from a well defined view-points which is none of the "default" ones (front/top/left/home). This viewpoint (or camera position, if you want) should be identical in all those models. Ideally, it can be entered numerically (two angles and one distance from origin, plus potentially 3 coordinates for a shifted origin), but I could live with a mouse-adjusted viewpoint which is then saved.

I know how to use Named Views in a sketch, but I do not know how one would copy or synchronize them between multiple models.

i.e. I want to use the same Named View in each of these models. Ideally, I want them such that if I change them, they are changed everywhere, but that would be a plus.

I've tried to work with "dummy objects" as a proxy (i.e. using a dummy-object model which I then link in any of these models), but it is extremely tedious and uncomfortable.

Alternatively, I've created a "booth" model with the Named views set up, and the "import" all the models. This works better, but is also tedious in particular for larger models and doing this with many.

So, does anybody have an alternative good solution workflow for this problem?

Two things (IdeaStation?) would possibly either "fix" the problem:

  • The possibility to enter values when accessing a NamedView's "properties" (does not yet exist). i.e. right-click a Named View, select "properties", and be able to enter 6 parameters which define the view.
  • The possibility to copy & paste Named Views between models

Both of those suggestions would be great additions in the Ideastation if they don't exist currently. I'm not aware of any way to accomplish those specific features today.

To work around the issue you may consider the following. Create a Base Feature first if you're in a parametric timeline environment. Next Create an offset work plane. Note that you can use a 0 offset workplane if that is required. Then, use the move command to reposition this workplane into a precise position in the workspace. Finally, you can use the Look At command in the Navigation bar at the bottom of the workspace to position a View and then create a custom Named View that is uniform across your designs.

I haven't tested this workflow, but I think it should get you where you need to go. I hope this helps! Let me know if anything above is confusing.

You already mentioned the ways I would do this: namely a "photo booth" is my favorite. Currently it is the best way to capture both camera angle and lighting. You can also add "props" that don't belong in your models, like walls and floors.

I think you have the right plan, go to Idea Station with it. You may want to check for other existing ideas like this one that sound similar. If you add your voice here in comments it can often add more clarity and support than simply voting.

This is only a "Per Design solution" but it might solve some problems:

Thanks @innovatenate, that is essentially what I did in my first workaround of the "linked in auxiliary model". It's tedious though. Also, "look at" is looking at a plane always perpendicular from the 'current side' one is on, so a real object needs to be placed and made "invisible" ('air' or just switched off after use). Finally, zoom and view-rotation are not always captured nicely by this...

Hence, the 2nd "Photo-Booth" workaround.

Thanks @Phil.E

The problem with the "Photo-Booth" is that I sometimes want to place models in their own "environment" (say a room) but still want to use the identical viewing angles. The idea only works for real "Photo-Booth" like applications. However, I think it would be great if the "default installation" of Fusion360 would have a pre-made "Photo-Booth" model in the "Demo Project" or "Samples"  folder. Ready with some "camera"-objects. I (now) know how one can create lamps etc. within Fusion, but being forced to learn and built this is a bit steep for a beginner just wanting to "get some nice render of my first model".  Would this also be a suggestion for the IdeaStation or is that a suggestion better uttered elsewhere ?)

Thanks also for the link. I did upvote it (and others related), but

I've also now placed the idea with some mock-up UI in the Idea Station for the community to up-vote.
